The Headless Chicken

Everyone knows what an unplanned weekend away means, you gotta work a bit harder the following week, don’t ya? So, on Monday morning we stuffed the fam back in the truck before the crack of dawn and headed back home. A quick stop in Astoria for breakfast, and at 11:30 am I dropped the kiddos off in their school, drove home to throw stuff in the washer and to take a shower before my first meeting at 2 pm. Ever since I’ve been running around trying to tie all the loose ends.

Right now, it’s Wednesday afternoon, and I am finally almost caught up. What had to give in is the laundry and as that is my weak point anyways, my upstairs hallway is covered in piles of clean, unfolded clothes and my advice to whomever needs an item of clothing has been to take a dive into those piles. But, I have wrapped all the kids’ Christmas presents, I just finished the listing presentation I have been working on and I have met with several clients.

The presents, that was the thing I really, really, really wanted to get done before Winter Break starts as I was dreading having to get it done in the garage in the middle of the night. I’m not a night owl. Not the least little bit, and I really like to be under covers by 9:30 pm. Most nights at least Mia is still up at that time. Having said this, it was one of my top priorities for this week. The other thing, when it comes to Christmas, is that every year we decide to keep it small, and every year we end up facing an epic fail and there are way too many things to cover in colorful paper.

Now that the two most important tasks have been completed, I guess I’ll have to tackle the laundry. There really isn’t away around it anymore, besides, tomorrow I’ll be at the office pretty much all day, and on Friday I’ll spend the morning at Seattle Children’s, and the afternoon delivering teacher gifts.
