I have to say, I have some of the most amazing clients! I
mean for reals. Imagine yourself, sitting in your realtor’s car touring homes
with three children in the back seat on a hot summer day. As usual the kids are
most randomly arguing over anything and everything, as they could come up with
at least a million better ways to spend their summer vacation rather than crammed
in that backseat. Okay, you are imagining this, are you? You’re thinking you
know what I’m talking about as you have kids too, or maybe your children are
all grown up, but you still remember. If you don’t have kids, you’ll know
someone with kids, or at very least you have seen kids at the grocery store or
at a restaurant. Haven’t you? You may be wondering why the kids are in the car,
and not with a sitter, or friends or family. Who in their right mind would want
to take their three kids with them, when they are trying to concentrate on
finding a home? Wouldn’t they rather not listen to the backseat bickering?
Well, I told you I have amazing clients. Now, imagine the same thing, are you
ready? Are you sitting in that car with your realtor and the kids? If not, I’ll
wait a bit to get you on board… In the car yet? Hot day, long list of homes to
see, and three children in the backseat. The kids would rather be somewhere
else. Ready? Here it comes… The kids aren’t yours, you don’t even have kids.
The kids are your realtor’s children. See! Amazing clients, told you so!
However, I do want to set one thing straight. Even though
many agents encourage you not to take your kids with you whilst looking at
homes, let alone your realtor’s children, I personally have nothing against touring
with the entire family. That is your choice, and some want to have everyone
with them, some would rather not. I am absolutely fine either way. On my tours,
you can bring your kids or your mom and dad, or whomever you feel like you need
or want to have with you. The reasoning with no kids is that usually children
have a great tendency to distract you from what you are trying to do, but as we’re
all different, and our families are different, and for some of you, getting
that sitter or neighbor to watch your kids is way more stressful than hauling
everyone with you. I want to make it your choice. You know what is best for
you.
I also want to tell you, that having my children in the car
with you is definitely not the norm. It was an exception to all rules, as like
I told you last week, I am flying solo this week with him being on a business
trip, and since it’s summer the schools are closed. So, no, part of my service
is not to meet my kids and listen to them whine in the back seat. This client
also knowingly accepted, meaning she did get a fair warning and a choice, but
due to our schedules it was a necessity to go look at these homes – with the kiddos.
But do I have amazing clients or what!
