A Night at the Library

And suddenly it’s Friday again. Remember, I told you it was going to be an awesome week. Busy, but awesome, and let me tell you, it truly has been awesome. There are weeks that are more blessed than others, the ones that stand out in a good way, and this was one of them.

Closing a sale is always great. Besides meaning it is my payday, it also means that I have again been blessed to walk the entire journey of finding a home with someone. That is an awesome feeling. You start as strangers and during your journey you become close. When you submit an offer it almost feels like it is for your home, as you have a little bit of the same anxiety as your clients have. You sit with your fingers crossed, hoping the offer you created together truly is as good as you think. But closing day, handing over the keys with your closing gift is just priceless. All the happy smiles and the excitement of getting to call the house they wanted a home.

So, that was my Tuesday.

Last night I got to host an event for future home buyers. These were not first-time home buyers, but they were first time home buyers in the US. We gathered at the Redmond Library for an evening of education and Q and A’s. I had asked a dear friend of mine to come and speak about mortgages as I am no mortgage specialist, but she is, and I also asked someone I work with to come and talk about title and escrow. Title and escrow can be somewhat mysterious things for someone whom has either never bought a home, has bought a home in a different state or yet, another country. Michael Abrahamson from Rainier Title and Escrow did a phenomenal job, as did Kirstin Ward from Opes Advisors.

My biggest fear was that no one would show up. This is the fear I had as a kid at my birthday party, and I have the same fear for my own kids’ parties. I know it’s an irrational fear, but I still have it. What if no one shows up despite all the rsvps. How awful would that have been!

Well. That truly wasn’t the case as I had set up twenty chairs and we ended up having to pull more chairs out. I had a full room of fantastic people wanting to learn more about the process. I am forever thankful to both my speakers, and I am also truly, truly thankful for my wonderful clients to making the effort of joining us, and talking about their experience on the process. I can only speak as a professional, and my view and knowledge will lack what it feels like to be on the other side, in the midst of the turmoil of requests from the lender and escrow and me and… And how it felt to view those homes, and how they ended up being surprised on how painless the process ended up being.

In the end we were pretty much thrown out of the library as the library was closing and we were still answering questions. We packed up together, and continued the chat outside. It was a wonderful evening and a great start for further discussion. There truly was a need for something like this in our community.

Thank you to all my attendees and speakers. I was so very happy to have you!
