It’s been an awesome week, and just today, I was thinking
how extremely lucky I am to get to have a job like this. I mean – really, really
lucky. Yes, it can be stressful at times but hey, it wouldn’t be a job if it
wasn’t, and most times I don’t even feel like I’m working.
I’ve had a child in tow for pretty much the entire week, as
Max happened to land on his head on Monday morning, on his way to school. The
bad parent – me – sent the child to school as I had a meeting, and emailed his
teacher to let me know if there were any concerns. About half way through my
meeting the school nurse called, and I left to pick up the kid and to take him
to the pediatrician. Ever since, he has been following me. It’s called brain
rest. No reading, writing, studying, tv or gaming, but he is allowed to walk,
and he is allowed to listen to an audiobook, so there he is. My little
assistant.
My little assistant has been there this week for meetings with
clients, for showings, for inspections and for brokers opens. In the office,
out of the office, at home and back in the office. At some point of the day he has asked me; how many more... three, two, five? I have been there for him in between, and
during all those doctor’s appointments, and during the night when he has slept
right next to me, so that mom can hear every single thing. Moms can, trust me.
Every mom knows this, moms sleep but can still hear every single thing going on
in the house, like my daughter taking her baths in the middle of the night. We
call her the night bather – yökylpijä. I have been blessed by my self created extended family though as I keep getting offers to help, and finally yesterday, Auntie Cake called and told me she would come and get Max for an hour or so, she only needed to know where to pick him up. As she would not take my no for an answer, she picked up the little patient from Hoffman's bakery a few minutes prior to my meeting.
This week, I got my first ever flower delivery from a happy
client. Love the flowers, super cute, but more than anything I am happy that
she is pleased with her new home and our time spent together.
I’ve had an inspection party, you know, several inspections
going on at the same time, at the same house. The more the merrier as we are
living in the era of pre-inspections. By the way, I always encourage an
inspection, even though I understand the current trend of having everything
waived and buying homes AS-IS. But at very least, it does give one some sense
of what they are getting into and what needs to be done potentially.
This afternoon I went to a Brokers Open at an upscale new
construction home in Enatai. We enjoyed the catered lunch with Max, and we took
a peek at a home that most of us dream about. Never before, have I actually
seen a Restoration Hardware bathroom in a home. In their catalog and in their
showroom yes, and in my dreams, but never in a real home. This home was perfect
in every single way. All the finishes, the beautiful kitchen, the flow and the
floorplan.
Right now, I’m sitting with my fingers crossed as my clients
submitted an offer for a home they really like. A good offer too, making smart
decisions on how to present themselves as a solid buyer. However, I’m sure
there were several rock-solid offers and as we are where we are, there is
always the option that they will get outbid by a foreign cash investor if
nothing else. Buying a home is like playing poker, and I’m hoping we had the
right hand. Maybe some day I will no longer have the same combination of
excitement and anxiety while waiting to hear back, but I do love having a role
in the battle, and even though it’s not my offer or my home, I really hope they
will get it!
Tomorrow is Friday again. I will be working with clients
this weekend, but tomorrow is reserved mostly for Max, his head and Seattle
Children’s.
