After being super busy for quite a few weeks it suddenly hit
me today. The alarm went off at 6 AM, like it does every Monday, but I ended up
doing something I never do, I mean for reals, never. I grabbed my phone, slid
my finger over the clock and set it to go again an hour later, and fell back a
sleep in probably less than a minute. Yes, yes, yes, I work in real estate, and
no one will expect me to be in the office by 8:30 AM - usually. Today though, I
was supposed to be in the outskirts of Monroe at 8:45 AM for a septic
inspection. With three kids. After walking the dog. After getting dressed and
showering and making sure the kids are fed and wearing something else that
pajamas. We made it, but I fell short at least two cups of coffee.
While driving, I scheduled a doctor’s appointment for Mia
for the afternoon. No worries. Bluetooth. And pediatrician on speed dial. Law
abiding citizen over here. Well not quite, as last night I realized I never
picked up my new tabs from DOL, and have been driving around with expired tabs
for past two weeks… Oopsie. This is what happens when you get busy.
The septic was done in an hour and a half, and I was ready
to crawl back in bed. Instead I drove to Crossroads to get the tabs, glued the new
sticker on top of the old one, and then headed back home my entire body aching
trying to think how to word the next Form 34 (blank addendum) I needed to send
to the listing agent.
Mia was whining in the back seat and at home I realized that
it wasn’t just the cool morning that made her feel warm. At least I had already
scheduled her the appointment, good judgement there. Instead of sitting at my
desk, forcing myself to work, I climbed upstairs with my feverish child, opened
the TV and picked a movie for us. Two movies and four hours later I finally felt I was
capable of tackling the T baffle. Called the septic company first, listing
agent second, and then high-fived myself. Didn’t do anything else though. I
have invitations to send out, emails to write, NWMLS searches to do and a ton
of other stuff. But today I seem to be having a bad case of Monday.
The first part of summer was easier than the second half.
Hubs was working from home and I could just leave the kids at home with him. He’s
been back in the office for few weeks now, the few weeks that I have been crazy
busy, and most mornings we have been rolling the dice on who gets the honor of
grabbing three assistants with them. This is the working parent stuff. We are
lucky to have jobs where we can do that. Yes, it is an inconvenience for all of
us, but it’s still doable, and as my days are built from a variety of things it
is many times more feasible for them to follow me, maybe, but just maybe, a bit
less boring too. I’m waiting for September though, and I bet you, so are they.
Still hate packing those lunches, but I also hate seeing them on the other side
of that glass wall playing endlessly on their iPads while I’m in meetings.
