It’s conference week in our school district, meaning instead
of being at school until closer to 4 PM, the kiddos come home at noon, yikes! I
like the lazy afternoons together, having time to watch movies, play games,
sell cookies… but it also means I have been trying to cram my work into those 3
hours in the morning all week.
Today is Friday, I’m going to have a busy weekend working
with several clients, and I spent my morning prepping for tomorrow. Checking on
comps for all potential properties – meaning researching all similar properties
sold in the area, reviewing documents posted on MLS, forwarding them to my clients, writing
contract drafts for several properties and making sure I have my facts straight…
I know, severe type A personality but I rather prep ahead than scramble through
something in a hurry. My least favorite answer to a client is: I don’t know.
I will save the memory of having to write my first contract
till the end of my days, and it’s not a very pleasant memory. I got it right, my
client got the home they wanted, but I spent hours in sheer panic trying to make
sure I had it together. It was a great learning experience, and since then I
have been prepared, every single time. By now I have written enough contracts
to know what to include and what not, but this is a game of tactics and filling
out the required forms is just the initial step. In the end, no two contracts
are quite alike, maybe similar but not the same.
Many of my friends have asked how I do it, work all my weekends, and my answer is always the same. Firstly... I don't work every weekend, all weekend. Most weekends I work a little bit but have plenty of time to have fun with the fam too. And secondly, I truly enjoy my work.
In the afternoon I’m planning on watching a movie with the rug
rats, but now I will sort the piles of paper scattered all over my living room.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
